According to a recent Associated Press report, the Louisiana Attorney General had to step in and stand up for the tee shirt and souvenir vendors after the NFL had issued cease and desist orders against their selling of merchandise with the ‘Who Dat' slogan printed on said merchandise.
It is somewhat ironic, since the NFL had never crossed this line prior to the Saints winning their division championship and heading[...]
First, let me qualify this blog by saying that I manage an opinion portal, www.boomeropinion.com, which is in reality a social media site. We provide polls, discussions and articles on issues facing America and Baby Boomers. We encourage Boomers to visit our site daily so they can weigh in and discuss the critical issues of the day.
I should also mention that I use twitter, but only for business purposes. I post[...]
Prior to the beginning of every New Year people make all kinds of resolutions. Work harder. Lose weight. Read more. Enter into a new fitness routine. Save more. Spend more time with the family. Make your business more successful. And by February, most of our resolutions have been abandoned. So why even make New Year's resolutions?
In the past few years I have not made resolutions because I knew good and[...]
In a recent blog by Scott McKain titled, "Trapped in Traditional Thought...", McKain points out that a thirty second spot on the number one television show, "NCIS" costs $133,304 while a thirty second spot on "Grey's Anatomy" costs $240,462. Given the fact that "NCIS" has four million more viewers than "Grey's Anatomy", why would the ads cost less for "NCIS"?
This contradiction points to the traditional agency approach and thinking when[...]
There is a lot of talk about corporate America and social responsibility. Is the business sustainable? Is the business environmentally responsible? Does the business treat its employees and partners fairly and responsibly? Does the business partner with socially responsible suppliers, manufacturers and resellers? Or is socially responsible business just an oxymoron?
The real question of course, is: Can a public corporation succeed at being socially responsible, and at the same time[...]
Sure, let's do another commercial for bolstering the holiday consumer rush. Let's not and say we did. To paraphrase a note my minister posted on his facebook page two weeks ago, "Christmas music is playing in stores two weeks before Thanksgiving...that is just wrong on so many levels." Yes Virginia, we are in a recession and the retailers are trying anything and everything to generate as much business as possible[...]
In June of this year, Tennessee legislators passed a new law allowing people with concealed carry permits to bring guns into bars and restaurants in that state. They had to override the Governor's veto to get the law passed. And last month, Arizona legislators enacted a similar bill allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons into bars and restaurants in their state. Needless to say, the National Rifle Association backed these[...]
Business life and family life have always been separate entities. Kiss the spouse, hug the kids and the paradigm shift begins. By the time you reach the office, you have shifted gears into your business mode. Why? Because your business life and family life are mutually exclusive and have always been that way since the industrial revolution began. Work by its very nature should be serious and focused on the[...]
By Mac McKinley, Boomer Opinion. July 16, 2009. Of course, being the CEO of Boomer Opinion, my answer to this question is quite simple. A Boomer is a person born between the years of 1946 and 1964. That is the definition of a Baby Boomer.
However, since I refer to Baby Boomers as Boomers, I have gotten some strange responses from people when I tell them that my partners and[...]
Yes, for most people the logical answer would be to hire the person with the most experience. After all, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. If a person has been successful in his or her field for the last 10-20 years, why wouldn't they make the best hire and be a very productive member of your company? In the past, I would have voted for the experienced[...]
